Pharmacy Program Introduction

The pharmacy program is a discipline guided by chemistry, biology, and medicine, focusing on the research, development, production, use, and management of drugs. Its main tasks include the research and production of drugs and their formulations, explanation of drug actions and mechanisms, formulation and quality control of drug quality standards, as well as the rational use, supervision, and management of drugs. The pharmacy program has developed a relatively complete scientific knowledge system, including core courses such as pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, microbiology and biochemical pharmacy, natural product chemistry, clinical pharmacy, and pharmaceutical management. After completing the first year of study, students are streamed into pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering, or pharmaceutical formulation based on their grades and preferences.

The pharmacy program is a national characteristic specialty and a provincial high-level applied construction specialty (group) (pharmacy). The program is affiliated with the Shandong Medical Sciences Academy platform, the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Natural Medicinal Chemistry, the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Rare and Uncommon Diseases, the Shandong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Drug Release, the Shandong Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center - Comprehensive Pharmacy Experiment Center, the Shandong Provincial Key Discipline of Pharmacology, and the Shandong Provincial Key Discipline of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. It has a master's degree program in pharmacy. The disciplines of pharmacology and toxicology and chemistry have entered the top 1% of the global ESI rankings. This program has a teaching team with a reasonable age structure and academic background, possessing both virtues and talents.


Clinical Pharmacy Program Introduction

Clinical pharmacy combines pharmacy with clinical medicine, aiming to improve the quality of clinical drug use, focusing on patients, and studying and practicing clinical drug therapy to enhance the level of drug treatment. It is a comprehensive applied discipline.

The Clinical Pharmacy program at Shandong First Medical University began with the enrollment of a five-year pharmacy program (clinical pharmacy direction) in 2004. In 2016, they started admitting students to a five-year undergraduate program in Clinical Pharmacy. This program is currently a high-level applied construction specialty in Shandong Province and a first-class undergraduate program. It is supported by the School of Pharmacy, which has a master's degree program in pharmacy. The Pharmacy Comprehensive Experiment Center is a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. Pharmacology is a key specialty in Shandong Province, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a key discipline in the field of medicine and health in Shandong Province. The disciplines of pharmacology and toxicology and chemistry are ranked in the top 1% globally according to ESI. The clinical pharmacy internship bases are all national clinical pharmacist training bases under the National Health Commission, forming a comprehensive system for teaching, research, and practice.


Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Program Introduction


Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a discipline that is guided by traditional Chinese medicine theories, focusing on the research of fundamental theories of Chinese herbal medicine, resource utilization, material basis, mechanisms of action, application methods, quality control, new drug research and development, safety and efficacy evaluation, marketing, and management. TCM is a subject that reflects the traditional characteristics of Chinese medicine, which have been formed through the long-term clinical practice of the Chinese nation.


The fundamental purpose of higher education in TCM is to cultivate high-quality professionals in the field of Chinese herbal medicine to promote the development of traditional Chinese medicine. Enhancing the development of TCM education with enriched content and improving the quality of talent cultivation in TCM are essential for advancing the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine and providing better healthcare services to the people.


The Traditional Chinese Medicine program at Shandong First Medical University began in 2003 and is considered a first-class undergraduate program and a high-level applied specialty in Shandong Province. The program has 59 full-time teachers, including 27 professors and 32 associate professors, forming a teaching team with a reasonable age structure and academic background, possessing both virtues and talents.
