The Department of Natural Medicinal Chemistry was established in 2005 which is affiliated to the College of Pharmacy. Currently, there are four full-time members, among whom one is professors, one is associated professor ,and three teachers have received the doctor degree. Two teachers are supervisors of postgraduates and four teachers serve as members of the academic committees in Shandong Province.
Now the Department of Natural Medicinal Chemistry mainly undertakes four courses of undergraduates and postgraduates, including the course of Spectral Analysis, Natural Medicinal Chemistry, Chemistry of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Drug Design, and Spectral Analysis. The average annual teaching workload is 800 hours. The course of Chemistry of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a Province-Level Excellent course, and Natural Medicinal Chemistry is a College-Level Special course for adult education.
During the past few years, our department has edited three textbooks, accomplished four teaching researches of Taishan Medical University, published four papers in the journals, and received three awards containing a third prize of Shandong Soft Research Science, a first prize and a third prize of Taishan Medical University teaching achievement. At the same time we pay attention to developing students’ ability, instruct them to participate in different competitions and get some achievements: One second prize of "Challenge Cup" National Science and Technology College of extra-curricular academic competition works, One second prize of National Pharmaceutical College / Pharmacy / Chinese medicine university students' innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and one first prize of Shandong provincial medical biotechnology competition. Four national college students innovation and entrepreneurship training programs were funded .
Since 2011, eleven research projects have been funded by different angencies, including four National Natural Science Fundation, one Shangdong Provincial Young and Middle-Aged Scientists Research Awards Fund, two Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation. The total research funds amounted to more than 1800 thousands. Many achievement awards have been received, including one first prize, three second prizes, two third prizes awarded by Taishan Medical University, two invention patents, and twenty-two papers published as the first or corresponding authors, among which eight papers were indexed by SCI.
